Follow Friday

Follow Friday is now hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it'll allow us to show off more new blogs!

Q.  What writing device or trick most irritates you when reading a book? For example, if an author employs an omnipotent narrator that is sometimes considered bad form.

A. I have a few but the main one is: The Love Triangle. You can have drama in a relationship without adding a third person. It's usually contrived and you can always tell who the winning person is going to be, so waiting for the author to actually put it on the page is tiresome.

  1. I agree. I really don't like the additional drama. It's too contrived!

  2. Hopping through. I don't always mind a love triangle but it has to be done carefully.

  4. Ugh! I HATE the lve triangle because it rarely happens in real life and it never happens for "ordinary and average" girls. Boys probably because they are such players but in real life, its usually the Queen Bee who gets all the attention and in books, these Queens are usually the villains.

  5. I don't care for cliffhangers, but mostly I hate anything that happens due to coincidence. I like logical steps to a conclusion.

  6. Love triangles are very much over done. I would prefer to just focus on one person love interest!!

  7. I picked the love triangle too! I also hate it because I seem to always pick the guy that doesn't get picked. Those are usually the really nice, sweet, and understanding guys. The love triangle is just unnecessary drama.

  8. I'm so glad someone agrees with me on this one! They drive me mad. And it's always two guys, one girl - never two girls, one guy; three guys; three girls, or whatever.

  9. Def. I hate that too. Especially when the girl can't choose and we all know who she's going to end up with. :) Boohoo!

  10. Nah, I am okay with love triangles. As long as both sides are getting equal attentions and the author manage to entice me with both guys, that I'd be really happy with my heart torn between the two guys ;) However, I do think the whole love triangle with Twilight is a little over-glorified. I haven't read the books but just from the looks of the movie I already know Bella will choose Edward, how I have no idea, I just know. So, no torn heart here :P (Although, to be fair, I am no Twihead, I can't even finish watching the first movie!)

  11. I totally agree with you!! A well done love triangle can add all sorts of tension but the ones we find at large are just gimmicks!! And I so cannot tolerate them!

  12. Hi! I agree sometimes with the hatred of threesomes, because most of the time you know who they're going to end up with and occasionally it's not who I wanted! But, sometimes I can appreciate the ones that are done well.

  17. New follower through networked blogs. There's too much drama in a NORMAL relationship to add a third ingredient into the mix, lol!
