Book Review ~ Halfway to the Grave

Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress #1)
By Jeaniene Frost
Published By Avon

Summary (Goodreads): Flirting with the grave...
Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father--the one responsible for ruining her mother's life. Then she's captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unholy partnership.

In exchange for finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner--are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn't have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her new found status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side . . . and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.

My Thoughts: I'm conflicted about this book. While I enjoyed it overall there was something about it that caused me not to Love it.  With all the love I have seen for this series I may have come into it expecting too much. I liked the premise of Cat hunting/killing  vampires as a way to atone for what was done to her mother and her birth.  On the flip side she just seemed incredibly ignorant about a lot of things not just vampire related but in general. I did feel she got better as the book went along and seemed to learn from Bones even if she wasn't always opened to it.  Speaking of, I did like Bones and completely understand what all the fuss is about.  There was enough action in this book to keep me interested from beginning to end and want to pick up the next book to find out what happens.

Rating: 3.5

  1. Yeah, the best part of the books has definitely got to be Bones and Bones' comments about Cat.
