Follow Friday
Follow Friday is now hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee of course and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it'll allow us to show off more new blogs!
Q: Which book genre do you avoid at all costs and why?
A: This may sound bad but I avoid a lot of contemporary and classics. With classics I worry I'm not going to like it but I should because it's A Classic and contemporary tends to depress me. I want to get lost in my books.
Happy Reading and Have a Great Weekend!

I think you have to find different classics! I am finding that I love the classics more now that I am older and not being forced to read them by a teacher. :)

Classics used to scare me but then I started reading more of them and they just read like regular books to me now!

Hopping through. I wish I read more classics. I feel like I would be more cultured.

I love some "Classics" as in Kafka and Goethe, but for some reasons am not that big a fan of Jane Austen. (I loved Bronte's Wuthering Heights, though when I read it.. Which was with 15, so it's been a while. I wish we had read it in school. ;( ) So I can understand the no classics stuff. And Contemporaries, too.. I don't read many of them. For similiar reasons.

Classics are normally a hit or miss with me. There are some that just dragged on, like To the Lighthouse, and others that I fell in love with, Pride and Prejudice. I guess it all just depends.

ReplyDeleteI know how you feel about classics. Everyone expects everyone else to enjoy all classics. In reality this isn't the case. Just because it's classic, doesn't mean its good.

I agree... I have a real hard time with contemporary books. I read to escape. :)

I avoid contemporary for the most part as well. They tend to not be as interesting to me. I have a very select list of classics I would like to read, but they're mostly genre things like Dracula and Dr. Jekyl & Mr. Hyde.

I forgot to mention classics too. I hate classics too. They aren't that fun to read. They're more like a dread to read! My FF!
ReplyDeleteI love classics, though I definitely understand how so much of it seems like pressure to like them just because they're considered a "classic." I definitely have to fight a few people when they hear I don't like Vonnegut!
